NAOC Commissions 500KVA Generator, Science Block

In a bid to improve the economic standard of the people and enhance the human capacity development in its host commities, the Nigerian Agip Oil Company and its joint venture partners have commissioned a 500KVA Generator and a science laboratory block in Bayelsa State.

The 500 KVA (cat) Generator, is sited in Ikebiri I community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area while the science laboratory block is at Okugbue Community Secondary School, Abuetor in Sagbama Local Government Area.

Speaking at the ceremony, the NAOC District General Manager, Giovanni Salvini, represented by the Public Relations, Communication and Government Laison Manager, Prince Nwachukwu Obi, noted that generator would provide rapid development in the community and encourage small and medium enterprises, while the science laboratory would promote human capacity building among the youths in the area.

He described the projects as true testimony of the importance NAOC attached to infrastructure development and the improvement of the living condition of the host communities as well as promote academic excellence.

According to him, Agip projects have crisscrossed more than sixty communities within the land and swamp areas of their operational states of Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers including annual bursary and scholarship award to both secondary and tertiary schools students.

He urged them to maintain the existing peace and cordial relationship between them and NAOC while availing themselves of the on-going scholarship scheme.

In his remarks, the representative of Bayelsa State Ministry of Petroleum, Engr Christmas Brass lauded Agip for complementing the state government’s efforts at rural infrastructure development especially in the area of power generation.

He enjoined them not to vandalise the project as it would impact meaningfully on their living condition.

Responding on behalf of Abuetor community the president, Chief John Okoro, commended the NAOC for promoting education in the comity and Bayelsa State Government for taking over the school and urged NAOC To assist in equipping the laboratory while the government should post teachers and provide the necessary logistics to enhance the smooth take-off of the school.

The Amanaowei of Ikebiri Francis Ododo expressed appreciation at the 500KVA generator and requested for the payment of N50 million for pipeline oil spill, employment of Ikebiri indigenes, provision of portable drinking water, increase in the quantity of diesel for the generator and improvement of the women’s welfare  among others.
