The outstanding N600 million Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETF) recently released to the Rivers State Government would be used to revitalise the three government owned technical colleges, and for the construction of new 12 classroom schools in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi gave the indication on Monday at the opening of bid for the projects conducted by the Due Process office in Port Harcourt.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Ofuru, Ms Nemi stated that the three technical schools include Government Technical Schools Port Harcourt, Ahoada and Ete-Ogu.

She explained that the fund was an outstanding payment accrued to the state over the years and an intervention scheme for education.

The Commissioner further explained that aside the refurbishment and equipping of the technical schools, it would also embark on constructing 12 classroom blocks in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Ms.Nemi reiterated that government would not condone abandoned projects and therefore called on the contractors not to relent in delivering as expected.

Explaining why the Ministry embarked on the open bidding exercise, She said,” our aim is to encourage transparency and the State Ministry of Education is set to commence TETF intervention project in the state. ‘’

As projected, the bidding results would be announced in the next two months after due study and scrutiny by the authorities.

About 34 contractors participated in the exercise.
