Heavy Rain, Wind Wreak Havoc On Enugu

Following a heavy downpour recently, some residents of Uwani area in Enugu State are now squatting with relations and friends as the accompanying windstorm destroyed their homes.

The rain also destroyed electrical installations in the area

Some residents of the area told newsmen that the rain caused them huge losses.

A resident at Real Estate in Uwani area, Mr Stanley Eke, said that the rain pulled down the roof of the building in which he lived and destroyed other property, which cost had yet to be quantified.

Eke said the rain began with a heavy wind, which blew from different directions and pulled down structures.

“This is a big tragedy to the entire tenants in the building; the property destroyed when estimated will be heartbreaking,’’ he said.

A resident of NgwoStreet, Uwani, Enugu, Mrs Ngozi Mmadu, said that she came back from a night vigil and saw the destruction the storm caused her.

Mmadu said the ordeal from the incident would remain indelible in her mind.

A resident of Nnaji street, Mr Emeka Ndukuba, said he tried all he could to save his property but the effort proved futile as most of his property were damaged.

Ndukuba said he could only retrieve few of his belongings, which he took the a relative’s house with member of his family.

He called on the state government and good spirited individuals to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, most of the residents were seen packing out of the affected buildings.
