Enugu Plans To Improve Educational Content
Enugu State Government has said that it is poised to improve the educational content of its school curriculum in terms of quality and quantity.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Dr Simon Ortuanya, announced the plan in an interview in Enugu recently.
He said this would be achieved through the recruitment of qualified teachers into its school system.
The commissioner said the ministry recently concluded the recruitment of 2,000 permanent teachers and 3,000 volunteer teachers in the state.
“We have recruited more teachers and at the same time provide educational facilities such as books, chairs, desks and classrooms.
“The volunteer teachers will be earning N18,000 per month. The state government has promised to permanent them after two years of service,” he said.
Ortuanya described education as the only thriving industry in the south-east and expressed happiness that the people were now aware of its importance.
He said the ministry was holistic in its approach to education from renovation of dilapidated structures in schools to hiring of teachers.
The commissioner, however, said the state government was yet to access the counterpart funding from the Federal Government to re-double efforts at renovation and re-construction of more schools under the UBE scheme.
