Nigeria Premier League, NPL defending champions, Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt forced visiting Enyimba International FC of Aba to a 1-1 draw in one of the league’s week 23 encounter.

The match, which was played behind closed doors on the order of NPL’s big wigs in Abuja was the first of dolphins consecutive home matches. They needed maximum points to leap frog other opponents on the top boacret of the league table to top position. But the pre-match permutation did not work out as the draw result ensured the points at stake were shared between the two clubs.

Against the run of play, Enyimba’s Chinonso Okonkwo unleashed a powerful shot that beat 38th minute.

The visitors held onto the lead as they continued their osts until the 73rd minute when Kennedy Chinwo converted a penalty kick to draw Dolphins level and nick a point from the encounter. Both teams ended the game with 10 players after  one player each was sent off in the second half.

Speaking after the match, Dolphins coach, Stanley Eguma was at a loss why the NPL had ordered the match to be played behind closed doers.

According to him, Dolphins FC has done nothing wrong to warrant such a punishment.

He also blamed the centre referee for poor handling of the match and tactically aiding Enyimba to escape with a point from the encounter.

The coach however, admitted that his team did not play as well as they could, especially, in attack and promised to work on the loopholes noticed in the game.

Dolphins are currently tied on 35 points with Enyimba.
