Bizman Docked Over Fake Number Plate

The police in Lagos recently arraigned a businessman, Phillip Rotimi, for allegedly obtaining N11, 000 under false pretext to procure a fake motorcycle plate number and documents.

Rotimi, 53, who resides at 8, Egbelese St., Igando, Lagos, is standing trial before an Ejigbo Magistrates‘ Court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and forgery. He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that Rotimi and others still at large, conspired and committed the offence on February 13, at Ikotun, Lagos.

Shonibare alleged that the accused fraudulently obtained the sum of N11, 000 from one Kizito Obizokwo, under the pretext of procuring motorcycle documents for him.

“Rotimi unlawfully procured a fake plate number with Reg. No. AGL 130 QA, which had been officially allocated by Lagos State Government to one Solomon Oddey.

“He forged Lagos State Allocation of Registration Number document and vehicle licence for the commercial motorcycle, Treasury receipt and Consolidated Hallmark Third Party Insurance Certificate, “ Shonibare said.

He said that the police discovered the fake documents on March 31, when the complainant, Obizokwo, was asked to produce his motorcycle documents for check.

Shonibare said Obizokwo produced the accused who he said, procured the documents for him.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 419, 425, 465,467 (2) (i) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2003.
