AFCON Plans On Track In S’Africa

Preparations for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals to be held in South Africa are on track, according to the South African FA.

Postponing the announcement of host cities will not affect the build up to the continental showcase, the SAFA have said.

The host cities were set to be announced on Friday but the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) deferred the date to May 3.

The postponement will allow for financial deliberations, related to the cost of the event, between the LOC and Cabinet.

Speaking to Tidesports sources, SAFA Director of Communications Dominic Chimhavi said the process is necessary.

“We can play AFCON tomorrow because the facilities are there,” Chimhavi said.

“The delaying of announcing the host cities will not affect the tournament.

“Government is getting involved to make sure that everything is organised. This tournament is going to be the biggest of its kind in Africa so we must respect Cabinet’s decision.”
