Woman Docked For Alleged N460.000 Fraud
The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a businesswoman, Ijeoma Kalu, for allegedly obtaining N460, 000 from a lady, under the pretence of getting her child an admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Kalu, 26, is standing trial before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Ajala Ebi, Kalu committed the offence on Dec. 10, 2011 at her residence in Surulere, Lagos.
Ebi said that the defendant collected the money from one Joy Uzougu, to help her daughter gain admission into the college.
The prosecutor said that the defendant neither got her child the admission nor did she return Uzougu’s money.
He said that the alleged offence contravened Sections 285 and 312, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Magistrate T. Abolarinwa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case to April 17 for mention.
