We Lost To Fatigue Against Pillars – Akwa Utd

The coach of Akwa United FC of Uyo, Enefi Oboh, has blamed his team’s 0-1 defeat by Kano Pillars FC on Saturday on fatigue.

Oboh told newsmen shortly after the match, played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, that his boys were tired following their journey from Uyo to Kano by road, after playing a mid-week match on Wednesday.

“I noticed the players were tired; it was tough playing two games in a week considering the distance and I am happy with the fighting spirit of my team,” Oboh said

Manir Ubale, of Kano Pillars, scored the only goal in the 25th minute of the encounter with a curved shot from the left which floated past the Akwa United goalkeeper.

Kano United’s duo of Gambo Mohammed and Ubale ran circles around the visitors’ defence but were unable to put the ball in the net.

Reacting to their victory, Kano Pillars’ handler, Babaganaru Mohammed, said he was satisfied with the performance of his players.

“I am pleased with the outcome of the match because we took the maximum points; that is what matters most.

”The boys started the match with a passion to win the game in front of the home fans and I thank God the result was in our favour,’’ Mohammed said.

In spite of the defeat, Akwa United still maintain their sixth position on the NPL table with 15 points from 10 matches while Kano Pillars are eight with 10 points from nine matches.
