Two Arraigned For Stealing Gold Chain

Two persons have been arraigned before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by E. C. Woke for stealing a gold chain (cord).

The accused persons, Lovette Edozie, 32, and Shaibu Uba 33 are standing trial on a two-court charge for stealing and buying stolen properties.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Godwin Nwinam told the court that the first accused person, Lovette Edozie on the 14th February, 2012 at No 11 Obote Close off Okilbon Drive in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did steal one thick white gold chain (cord) valued at N450,000.00 one Jazzy white big chain valued at N480,000 and one designer gold ring valued at N290,000.

He further told the court that the accused persons also stole one big pendant set valued at N480,000, one black wrist watch valued at N35,000, one red wrist watch valued at N15,000 and one make-up set valued at N5,000.00 all valued at N1,725,000.00 properties belonging to one Mrs Jane Kayoda.

According to the police prosecution, the first accused person on the same date along Omerelu Street, GRA Phase 11 Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of the court sold some of the items, one thick white gold chain (cord), one jazzy white big chain and one designer gold ring to the second accused person, Mr Shaibu Uba at the cost of N160,000.00.

He stated that the accused persons committed an offence punishable under section 390 (b), 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 11 laws of Rivers State.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, E. C. Woko granted the accused N200,000 bail, one surety 4 passport each in like sum affidavit of means while the address of the surety is to be verify by the police prosecutor. The case was later adjourned to 30th April, 2012 for continuation.
