SNC, Not Solution To Nigeria’s Problems – Senator

Senator Chris Nwankwo, (PDP-Ebonyi North) said the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference (SNC) would not solve the country’s problems.

Nwankwo made his opinion known to newsmen in Abakaliki recently at a forum on Youth Creativity Initiative, one of his constituency projects.

He said the country needed intensive re-orientation to bring back lost values, which, he noted,  had led it to its present state.

“There are several laws in the country which when adhered to will bring the desired changes in the nation’s polity.

“We should return to the old ways of patriotism, honesty and respect for human life to ensure that we live in harmony and achieve our set goals.”

The senator remarked that the recent revelations on pension management in the country showed that some Nigerians hade lost the sense of patriotism and love for fellow citizens.

“A situation where a few embezzled funds meant for the welfare of workers who rendered meritorious services to the country shows that the quest for materialism had eaten deep into the fabrics of our society.

“The Senate Committee on Pensions would make recommendations on the matter public as such rot needed to be expunged from the country’s system.”

He explained that he set up the youth creativity initiative to enable them to contribute to reforming the country and prepare them for future leadership challenges.

“They would be trained on creative writing, mentoring and public speech making to enable them to enhance their wellbeing.”

Gov. Martin Elechi, represented by his Deputy, Chief Dave Umahi, called on youths to concentrate of self empowerment.

”Leaders should seek to empower the youth with sustainable means of livelihood, so that they can sustain themselves when such leaders leave office.”

He commended Nwankwo for his numerous human-oriented programmes since his days as the Secretary to the old Anambra and urged other leaders to emulate him.

Miss Ifeanyichukwu Uzoigwe, a participant, thanked the senator for the initiative and promised that they would use the knowledge gained from the programme to impact positively on the society.
