RSNC To Partner NURSS On Sports Dev
The management of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), publishers of The Tide group of newspapers has promised to partner with the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) in the promotion and actualization of the union’s sports programmes.
The General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo stated this yesterday when members of the Sports committee, National Union of Rivers State Students NURSS World wide, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Mr. Ogolo, who described sports as a veritable unifying factor in the country remarked that The Tide is passionate about the promotion and development of sporting activities, hence of devotes six pages every edition to sports stories.
The General Manager also reiterated the strong commitment of the present administration in the state to the development of youth and sports, citing the building of a new stadium and brand new primary schools across the state with sporting facilities among others, as mark of its commitment.
He landed the initiatives of the students union in he areas of sports and assure the body of maximum coverage of it’s proposed sporting competitions and other events as a way of encouraging budding talents.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman of the Sports Committee of NURSS, Mr. Wemedo Chima said the committee deemed it expedient to visit the general manager as to intimate him on their programme for the year and to also solicit for support in terms of advice, encouragement, prayers and finance to enable the body actualize its programmes.
Mr Wemedo who also called on public spirited and sports loving members of the public to assist the body disclosed that about N2 million was needed to sponsor its programmes.
Among major events, the body intends to carry out this year, include, sports festival for undergraduates, football competition for secondary schools in the 23 local government areas of the state and a friendly football match between National Union of Rivers State Students and National Union of Bayelsa State Students.
