RSG Reiterates Plans On ICT
The Rivers State Government, has reiterated its plans to give Information and Communication Technology (ICT) a face-lift in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Hon. George Feyii stated this on Tuesday during the flag-off ceremony of the ICT Imagine Cup in Port Harcourt.
Feyii said the state government’s quest for ICT development warranted its introduction in both primary and secondary schools in the state.
Describing ICT as the world’s compass, he called on all to be updated in its latest programmes or risk being left behind.
According to him, the state would endeavour to place its citizens on a sure pace with the world in the area of ICT development, while calling on institutions to take advantage of the collaboration.
The collaboration, he said, would address all the disadvantages of ICT, adding that young people should take full advantage of what was done.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Hon. Goodliffe Nmekini, narrated how the programme would enable Rivers Students to access the microsoft and its activities over the years.
Nmekini hinted that ICT economy would soon stabilise in the state, adding that there would be a membership programme.
The Special Adviser who put the ICT department at a high cost of maintenance, said the government had been fair to ensure that all the needed logistics for the smooth running of the area were provided.
He further revealed that the centre had trained about 4,200 civil servants, with over 50,000 support issues opened and addressed.
The ICT expert also informed that the state had signed a partnership pact with MTN and Glo through Rivcloud Initiative in order to tackle youth empowerment and other issues.
However , one of the organisers of the ICT Imagine Cup, Shina Oyetosho, who handled developer and platform evangelism in education/Imagine Cup opening, called on Rivers people to make best use of the opportunity, as he lauded the state government over the ICT development in the state.
The Tide gathered that the ICT Imagine Cup was brought by the ICT department to the state and the competition would be held in Australia this year.
