Politician Advices On Effective Leadership In Bayelsa
The new Governor of Bayelsa, Mr Seriake Dickson, has been advised to ensure focused and result-oriented leadership for the people of the state.
A surveyor and frontline politician in the state, Mr Furebi Akene, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa.
“Realising a Bayelsa of the peoples’ dream would begin with the calibre of aides the governor would choose,” he said.
Akene, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors and member of the Presidential Monitoring Committee on NDDC, therefore urged the governor to be careful in choosing the people to serve in his government.
“If I am asked, we need sincere and committed persons, we need people, who will show selflessness in service, we need to get it right this time.
“The governor has to also beware of sycophants and gold diggers, who will be interested only in their own pockets’’ he said.
Speaking on the urban renewal need of the state, he said there was the need for the implementation of the state master plan, which he said had been abandoned for years.
“Master plans are subject to reviews, the governor needs to look at it, and then commence implementation so that the state capital city can be what it should be,” he said.
Akene said that urban development required boldness on the part of government, adding, “if it must be gotten right, there should be no sacred cows, if there has to be demolitions, nobody must be exempted”.
