The Anambra Police Command, on Tuesday, warned hoodlums to shun any act that could disrupt the funeral of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Muntari Ibrahim, gave the warning at Nnewi, Anambra State, while assessing the security situation.

Ibrahim, now an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG), said he would supervise the security operatives during the ceremony.

He said that the security operatives comprised the Police, Army, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), adding that the personnel would not condone any form of violence.

Ibrahim, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka, however, assured Nigerians of adequate protection at the venue.

“We are checking on all connecting roads to see if there are weaknesses we can identify and tighten up, especially where check points are really needed during the occasion.

“Also, we want to make sure that the compound, car parks and the likes, are ready for us to resume duties.

“Every police officer will work to bring this to fruition. I, too will work with my men during the burial.”

Earlier, Ibrahim had informed the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, during a courtesy visit that he was in the town to identify security challenges for appropriate measures to be taken before the D- day.

In another development, the Enugu State Police Command is to partner with the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in the state to sensitise its officers and men on public conducts.

The command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, told newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu that the sensitisation would also centre on security in the state.

According to Amaraizu, the exercise would help throw more light on the objectives of the new Inspector General of Police tagged ‘Operation Restore Hope in the Nigeria Police’.

“The introduction of Operation Restore Hope and the sensitisation will help recover the lost glory of the Nigeria Police.

“Most policemen in the society do not do the right things expected of them and most are unprofessional in their behaviour,’’ he said.

Amaraizu said the exercise had been segmented into three zones of the command which are Enugu metro, Nsukka and Oji River area commands.

He explained that the public relation department of the command would visit the different commands to sensitise them.
