PETAN Lauds SPDC On Contracts Award

Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria Ltd (SPDC), has been commended for being in the vanguard of encouraging indigenous contractors in the Nigeria oil and gas industry.

The chairman of Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Mr. Shawley Coker made the commendation while speaking at a collaborative workshop on capacity development in the oil and gas industry held in Port Harcourt.

Lauding the management of Shell for hosting the workshop, Coker described the move as another first from Shell, adding that it organised a similar workshop a year ago, to educate its members on their contracting processes.

Commenting on the importance of the workshop, Engr. Emeka Ene, PETAN’s Secretary who described the workshop as historic said with the workshop, Shell and PETAN were being proactive as it created a forum to engage in the circle of developing Shell’s major projects in which both can align their objectives.

According to him, in this way PETAN’s key service capacity are met while at the same time meeting the demand of Shell’s projects.

“Shell and PETAN are being proactive to engage early in the circle of developing their major projects to see ways and means in which we can align our objectives so that we meet PETAN’s key service capacity while at the same time meeting the demand of Shell’s projects.”

I think this is actually a very historic development because it will strengthen the backbone of in-country expertise in the Nigerian oil and gas industry,” he noted.
