Governor Theodore

Orji of Abia State, has called for concerted efforts to strengthen the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) against anti-party activities by some party stalwarts.

Orji made the call in Umuahia when he received the campaign team of a national chairmanship aspirant of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

He expressed worry that a lot of things had gone wrong within the party.

‘’A lot of things have gone bad and people in our party behave the way they like.

‘’They behave as if they are above the party and during elections, notable people sponsor candidates in other parties,’’ he said.

He warned that such anti-party activities should not be tolerated, adding: ‘’If you belong to a party you have to be loyal to it at all times.’’

Speaking on the upcoming election of the party’s leadership, Orji said that the state would support any aspirant that had the backing of President Goodluck Jonathan.

‘’Wherever the president goes is where Abia will pitch its tent,’’ he said.

He remarked that Tukur was eminently qualified to lead the party as a ‘’core party man’’ and considering his ‘’intimidating antecedents.’’

Earlier in his speech, Tukur said that he was in the state to canvass for Abia votes at the national convention coming up on March 24 in Abuja.

He described the chairmanship election as ‘’very crucial,’’ adding that it would help to reposition the party to respond to the yearnings of a majority of Nigerians.

He said that he had the experience and age to excel on the job if elected.
