Okocha Wants Governors To Emulate Ojukwu
Legal luminary, Onueze C.J. Okocha, has urged former Governors in the defunct Eastern Region to emulate the former Military Governor of the region, late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s legacy of selfless services by forming a strong and united forum to protect the interest of the people of the old region in the country.
Okocha, who was the guest speaker, at a public lecture organised by the Rivers State Government in honour of the former Eastern Region Military Governor in Port Harcourt, said, the late Ojukwu “decided to go to war inorder to end the enslavement by the Northern oligarchy, who were killing and maiming the people of the region residing in the northern part of the country.
He described late Ojukwu as “a great thinker, philosopher and symbol of unity in the then Eastern Region.
Okocha, who further described Ojukwu as a man of principle, noted that it was during Ojukwu’s tenure as military Governor of the Eastern Region that many people in the Niger Delta region were absorbed into positions of trust in the then military government under Gen. Yakubu Gowon.
Earlier, the Chairmen of the occasion, and former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili identified the late Ojukwu as the first Eastern elite to support the Niger Delta course in the Nigeria.
According to Odili, Ojukwu does not have any problem in taking upright decisions, no matter the challenges.
“Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu was a man, who most of us related closely with. He is vibrant, focused eloquent, and has no problem in taking upright decisions, despite challenges.
“Ojukwu was the first to have written his name down as the one among other Eastern elites who supported the Niger Delta course.
“Ojukwu has left a legacy for us to prepare ourselves for sacrifice for the unity of on people, “Dr. Odili concluded.
