Obi Donates Cash To Biafran Veterans

Biafran war veterans last Wednesday heaved a sigh of relief  following a cash donation made to them by Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi at a requiem mass organised for the repose of the  soul of ex-Biafran Warlord , Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu at Holy  Ghost Catholic Church Cathedral, Enugu.

Although the Director, Catholic Institute of Development, Justice and Peace  (CIDJAP), Enugu,  Rev.Fr. Obiorah Ike , who announced the donation on behalf of the governor refused to disclose the amount of money for security reasons, assured the ex-Biafran Soldiers that each of them would go home with a huge sum of money.

Rev. Fr. Ike also announced the donation of vests and caps with Ojukwu,s name and picture to the war veterans, adding that Obi’s gesture to the  War Veterans followed an excellent display and songs  they rendered during the mass.

The war veterans had trooped out in large number to the arena and sang Biafran war songs, a development that drew loud ovations from the congregation and other members of the public who had besieged the Cathedral to catch a glimpse of the casket of Ojukwu.

The requiem mass caused heavy traffic jam and grounded activities around the Ogbete Main Market and parts of Enugu, as the ceremony lasted.

In his sermon at the mass, the Administrator of Holy Ghost, Cathedral, Enugu, Rev Dr. John Nwafor commiserated with the family of Ojukwu, saying the late Igbo leader made sacrifices for the emancipation of his people.

He said unless Nigeria embraced true Federalism with a weak center which Ojukwu propounded many years ago, it would know no peace.

The priest said although he wanted Nigeria to remain one, there was need for everybody to come together and dialogue.

Part from  Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state who attended the service, bishops and other clergies from the Anglican and other churches were also present at Mass officiated by the Administrator of the Cathedral of the Enugu Catholic Diocese.
