The President of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG), Port Harcourt zone, Comrade Godwin Eruba, has re-stated the commitment of the body to fight the monster of casualisation in oil companies.

Speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt recently, Comrade Eruba, said the issue of causalisation in oil companies deserves utmost attention, as it had been used as a basis for victimisting workers.

He said: “While some companies have complied with the labour policies and direction of NUPENG, others have remained adamant, and treat workers with reckless disregard”.

According to him, the issue remains that condition of service must be given to any employee in an oil company against the policy of casualisation which encourages slave labour.

Comrade Eruba, said those companies that have refused to adhere to labour policies have been given ultimatum, and there was a follow up to effect compliance to the norm.

The NUPENG boss also called for a total overhaul of the operations of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), stating that the corporation had failed in its statutory obligation.

He said without the overhaul of the NNPC, the purported reforms in the oil sector will remain a hoax.

Comrade Eruba also called for the proper sensitisation of Nigerians on the local content and indiginisation policy to enhance their participation in the oil and gas sector.
