NUEE To Embark On Strike Over PHCN
The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and its affiliate unions within the power sector have threatened to embark on industrial action over the liquidation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN)
The three unions National Union, of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and the National Union of Pensioners (NUP) are demanding the suspension of the purported transfer of employees of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to successor companies by the power ministry until the conclusion of negotiation with the unions.
According to the National President (NUEE), Comrade Mansur Musa, the unions are also demanding the final settlement of the balance of 137 percent negotiated salary increase jointly agreed with the power ministry, management of PHCN and the unions.
The unions said government has reneged on the agreement that the transfer of workers to any successor companies should be suspended pending the final liquidation of PHCN when all labour issues would have been resolved.
The unions stated that government was consistent in its action in view of the fact that decisions were being taken to wind down PHCN by transferring its workers to successor companies without concluding negotiation with the labour.
They called on the federal government to conclude the negotiation of monetary arrears to PHCN workers before the transfer of workers to successor companies.
