The Chairman of the Nigerian Premier League (NPL),  Chief Rumson Baribote,  has said that the board will soon secure sponsors of the league.

Baribote assured in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Port Harcourt that the board of the league was working hard to secure sponsorship.

He said the board had been silent on the sponsorship in order to resolve some thorny issues with the league.

“There are issues we want to resolve and it is not everything that we come out to tell the public that this is our problem and this is not our problem.

“In no distant time, we will come out and tell you the positive thing that will put an end to all these issues we are having.’’

Baribote said the premier league in the country had been good so far in the eleventh week, adding that the standard of play and officiating had improved.

“You cannot say the officiating has been perfect, but I think there is a great improvement.

“If you can record as many draws away then, it means the officiating aspect of it is improving.

“And you know, the English Premier League did not get to the height overnight. It has to start from somewhere. I think it is a gradual process.

“The awareness is there now, everybody want to contribute his own little to see we can improve our league for us to have a better national team.”

Baribote, who said football stakeholders were eager to see the game rise again in the country, added that they were working hard to achieve that objective.
