The organised labour in Kwara State has appealed to the state government to commence the immediate full implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage payment to workers.

In a statement the chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Farouk Akanbi stated that 12 months after the federal government approved the payment of the minimum wage, the state government ought to commence the full payment of the new minimum wage to workers in the state.

Comrade Akanbi said that the organised labour had concluded negotiation and reached agreement with the state government under then Governor Bukola Saraki, to commence full implementation of the new wage payment.

The NLC boss urged the state governor not to renege on the agreement reached with the state government on the full implementation of the minimum wage.

The statement further urged the state government to reduce taxes being paid by the workers every month from their meager salaries.

The NLC chairman said that the workers have been impoverished by the high taxes being deducted from their monthly salaries.

But in a swift reaction, the state government through the chief press secretary, Alhaji Wahaab Oba stated that the organised labour and the government have negotiated to commence the payment of the new minimum wage when the state income improves.
