The Rivers State Chairman Nigerian Civil Service Union (NCSU), Comrade Opu-Oyibo  Lilly-West, has commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for the prompt payment of  retirees’ accumulated arrears of pension and gratuity.

Comrade Lilly-West gave the commendation, while fielding questions from newsmen in Port Harcourt recently.

The NCSU State Chairman, said the governor  had done so well in the  payment of pension and gratuity to retirees of the State Civil Service.

Comrade Lilly-West noted that “pension and gratuity are as important as life to retired civil servants,” stressing that “if there is any area the state Governor had done so well, it is that of the payment of pension and gratuity”.

The union leader underscored the loftiness of the new pension scheme in the state that had been passed into law by the State House of Assembly, but added that government should give the deserved attention for full implementation to the benefit of the civil servants and workers in the state.

He insisted that in the choice of fund managers to manage the pension scheme, the unions must make input as according to him, the scheme holds much interest for the retired civil servants in the state.

The NCSU chairman also extolled the leadership qualities of Governor Amaechi and his developmental strides, describing the present administration’s  relationship with civil servants as very encouraging and cordial.

He called upon civil servants in the state to be dedicated and committed to work as the union will not come to the aid of any indolent workers in the state.
