The National Communications Commission (NCC) is to donate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materials to University of Port Harcourt in a bid to enhance ICT development in the area.

The board member representing the South South Zone in NCC, Mr. Dominic Nwator stated this recently in Port Harcourt during a chat with newsmen.

Nwator, said that the commission would release upto 120 Laptop computers to the school as part of its contribution to education growth.

He explained that the move was part of NCC’s corporate responsibility objective.

According to him, the commission is already working out modalities to enable it support some higher institutions of learning in the country.

He said that the Laptop computers are the first gesture from the Commission to Rivers State, hinting that the six states of the South South geopolitical zone will all benefit from the commission.

The NCC boss, further informed that Rivers State would soon have an emergency communication centre, saying that the present administration was it in existence as 112 (emergency number).

According to him, the emergency number will enable residents to easily contact the security operatives as well as ambulances in emergency situations such as fire out- breaks and arm robbery cases.

He was optimistic that the commission will record huge achievements even with its tight budgetary provision.

He however, lauded the Federal government for its support to the commission, and called for more budgetary provision to enable it discharge its duties accordingly.
