The Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASUEAI), has suspended the nationwide industrial action, members of the union embarked upon recently to compel government to meet its demands.

According to the union’s national Secretary, Comrade Peter Adeyemi, members of the Union had been directed to resume work from Thursday March 1 as the National Secretariat of the Union handles negotiation with the relevant authorities.

The union has on February 13 directed its members nationwide to embark on an indefinite strike to protest what the union described as government’s unwillingness to meet their long standing demands despite repeated reminders.

According to the union, the demands included the payment of arrears of 53.37 per cent salary increase since 2009, payment of research and allied institutions allowances and extension of retirement age of the union members from 65 years to 70 years.

The union also demanded for adequate funding and the establishment of a National Research and Technology Development Fund (NRTDF).

The union’s national Secretary added that the suspension of the strike was to give room for dialogue and deliberations with government, following intervention by well meaning Nigerians.

He said the Federal government had on February 21, set up a technical Committee to work out the modalities for the settlement of the outstanding issues leading to the industrial dispute.

The union’s scribe further stated that the union resolved after its meeting in Ibadan to suspend the strike so that the technical committee would meet with the government representatives with a view to resolving the issues amicably.
