NAMA Boss Wants Military Radar At Airports
The Managing Director of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nnamdi Udoh has stressed for the installation of military radar system at the nation’s airports.
Udoh who stated this when the commander, Quick Response Force (QRS), Minna, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Lagos urged the Nigerian Airforce to pursue with vigour the installation of military radar to enhance the surveillance and security of the airspace.
According to him, with the successful operation of the Total Radar coverage of Nigeria (TRACON), what the country should desire now was the military version of the system to secure the airspace for defence purposes.
He said that NAMA would continue to collaborate with NAF in the areas of air traffic service, engineering and training of its personnel and also appealed to the authorities of Nigerian Air Force to allow some of their trained air traffic controllers to stay on the job and grow professionally for the benefit of the aviation sector.
He noted that the agency signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the engineering unit of NAF, stressing that similar working document would be necessary for the newly created QRF to make its job smooth and effective.
Speaking, Air Commodore Ben Chiobi explained that the Quick Response Force was mooted in 2011 and became operational in January this year following increasing security challenges in the country, such as kidnapping and terrorism.
He said that coordination centres would be established around the country for emergency service during crisis and natural disaster.
