Market Fire Victims Get Relief Materials
The Federal Government has donated relief materials to the victims of Eke market fire disaster in Ishiagu community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The relief materials were worth millions of Naira.
Handing over the materials to the council chairman of Ivo local government area, Hon. Eze Celestine Eze, for onward distribution to the affected traders, Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi, expressed sympathy with the victims, advising them to put whatever that had happened behind them and forge ahead.
He, however, described the incident as quite unfortunate, saying “the federal government shares in your agony and pains occasioned by the fire and that is why, NEMA, is here to assist you with these relief materials which I am sure would bring you succor and not crisis during the distribution”.
The NEMA boss, who performed the assignment through the South East zonal coordinator of the agency, Dr. Abdulahi Bandele Onimode, enjoined the council chairman to ensure that the materials were distributed equitably and fairly among the victims.
According to Sidi, his office decided to approve the materials following a comprehensive assessment of the fire incident as carried out by the South East zonal office of the organisation, adding that“our officials will be coming back to the affected market in two weeks time to ascertain the level of work in the reconstruction project”.
In his speech at the event, Ivo council chief, applauded NEMA the Ebonyi state NEMA and the federal government for their concern and intervention, which he said, would go a long way in bringing relief to the affected traders.
While assuring the victims of equitable distribution of the items , the chairman, noted that reconstruction work at the market would gulp about N10 million, adding that his administration was determined in ensuring full realisation of the exercise.
He expressed our gratitude to the federal government, NEMA, and the Ebonyi State government for coming to aid the victims in this critical moment of losses.
Also speaking, Mr. Felix Nwaja, chairman of the Eke market Traders Association, had equally in his brief remarks, expressed appreciation to both the state and federal government for the concern shown so far since the unfortunate incident befell them.
Some of the items presented to the victims include, 100 bags of rice, 50 bags of beans, 50 bags of garri, 100 bundles of roofing sheets, 100 bags of cement, 1000 pieces of 2x3x12 planks, 1000 pieces of 2×4 x12 planks, 50 bags of roofing nails as well as 50 packets of zinc nails, among others.
