LG Boss Tasks Beauty Queen On Immunisation
The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon Chimbiko Iche Akarolo, has charged the new Miss Port Harcourt to help the state government to educate parents in the state to Immunise their children.
Hon Akarolo stated this when the new Miss Port Harcourt, Miss Rose-Mary Ibuchi Chinda paid him a courtesy call last Tuesday.
He stated that as a pageant queen and ambassador of the city she could do a lot to convince parents of the need for them to ensure that their children are immunised, so that the cases of physically challenged persons are redused in our society.
“I know you would not want others who will come after you to be physically challenged”, he said.
The Mayor also challenged the pageant queen to also partner with the Council on the Champaign against HIV, and Aids, noting that the various tiers of governments have enormous responsibilities to fight the scourge.
According to him, many donor agencies are puling out because of the present financial crisis in Europe and we have been mandated to look inward and generate funds and resources to help fight the deadly disease.
Hon Akaroto assured that the council was ready to partner with her to empower youths and also encourage development in the area.
Earlier, the new Miss Port Harcourt, Chinda assured that during her reign she would complement the efforts of the government in improving the lot of the disabled by providing skills, and medical outreach programmes for the elderly, especial those suffering from eye problems and high blood pressure in the area.
Miss Chinda also noted that their programme, it commences, would enable the disable not only to identify their potential but also to realise their dreams of becoming less dependent on government or the good will of the people but to be come wage earners.
