Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has urged the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Chris Oboh, to demonstrate purposeful leadership in order to impact on the lives of the people of the Niger Delta.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service in honour of Dr. Chris Oboh at Amazing Grace Model Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, GRA, Port Harcourt, yesterday, Governor Amaechi said leaders had a responsibility to implement policies and programmes that would benefit the people.

“It is important we know that you and I as public officers are responsible to the people to deliver on services and projects that will make their lives better. The only way not to be deceived by anything or anyone and to fulfill that responsibility is to continue with God”, he said.

According to Governor Amaechi, leaders would do well when they understand that they have a commitment to God and to man.

The Rivers State Chief Executive and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), further said, “one way to make this country move forward is to criminalise failure by those in public offices”.

He assured the NDDC Managing Director that the Rivers State Government was willing to work collaboratively with NDDC to provide more democratic dividends for the people.

Earlier, Pastor Belemina Obunge in his sermon had said that God does new things through people chosen by Him, and urged public office holders to particularly listen to the voice of God to excel and relieve the people of their sufferings.
