Labourer Bags Two Weeks Jail Term Over Grievous Hurt
An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 22-year-old labourer, Adamu Yahaya of Karamajiji to two weeks imprisonment without an option of fine for causing grievous hurt.
Senior Magistrate Njideka Duru, who convicted Yahaya after he pleaded guilty, did not give him an option of fine, and said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other intending offenders.
“The accused has shown no remorse for his offence and the offence of causing grievous hurt has become rampant amongst the youths.
“I hereby sentence you to two weeks imprisonment without an option of fine to serve as deterrent to others,” she said.
The police prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court one Sulaiman Ishiyaka of Karamjiji village, reported the case to the police March 16.
Anigbo told the court that the accused borrowed N100 from the complainant and refused to pay when he demanded for it.
Anigbo said, thereafter, there was a misunderstanding between the duo and Yahaya grabbed the complainant and pushed him to the ground and as a result he fractured his left hand.
He said that the complainant was rushed to AMAC Hospital for treatment and spent N20,000 for the treatment.
The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to Section 247 of the Penal Code.
