IGP Approves 11 Police Stations In Enugu
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has approved the establishment of 11 new Police Stations in Enugu State to bring the total number of police divisions in the state to 34.
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Dan-Azuma Doma disclosed this on Tuesday in Enugu to the state Assembly Committee on Security when they paid him a visit.
Doma also disclosed that the police authorities had approved the upgrading of Oji-River Police Station to an Area Command.
He listed the divisions to include Thinkers Corner/Corporative; Ugwogo-carved out from Abakpa division; Nara- carved out from Nkanu East; Ugwuaji-carved out from Independence Layout; Amechi-Uwani-carved out from Awkunanaw.
Others are Okpuje, Umuabo-carved from Nsukka; Umumba-carved from Ezeagu; Mbanabo North and Mbanabo South-carved out from Awgu division.
“The newly established police stations need logistics such as buildings, electricity supply and vehicles that have to be put in place for their effective take-off.
“So we are appealing to the general public and the lawmakers to assist the police in this direction so that police will discharge its duties to the people.’’
Doma explained that the dismantling of road blocks throughout the country was to allow people to travel smoothly to any part of the country.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee on Security, Mr Paul Ogbe said that members visited the commissioner to familiarise themselves with the police authority.
Ogbe who described security as the only panacea to sustainable development, commended the Enugu Police Command for the security arrangement they put in place to check crime in the state.
He assured the commissioner that the assembly would provide the legal framework that would help them to serve the people better.
