Political office holders across the country, have been urged to adopt proactive measures in the course of discharging their responsibilities to ensure the sustenance of the nation’s nascent democracy.

The Chairman of the Concerned Politicians of ONELGA (CPO) in Rivers State, Hon. Anthony Okanu who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Omoku expressed optimism that Nigerians would abundantly reap the dividends of democratic governance if public office holders respond proactively to issues that challenged their competence.

While harping on the need for all hands to be on the deck to sustain the country’s democracy and move the nation forward, Okanu stressed that with mutual understanding and effective performance, social, economic, political and security challenges facing the country would be a thing of the past.

He said the group was poised for good governance as it would contribute in the  provision of basic infrastructural facilities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state, noting that the area was in dire need of sustainable development.

Okanu appealed to the chairman of the local government, Hon. Raymond Wokocha to work towards the actualisation of the vision of his administration aimed at transforming the area.

He also stressed the need for economic empowerment of the people of the area and the provision of social amenities which he said would go a long way to ameliorate the plight of the people.

According to him, this could be achieved, if the people accord the council chairman the much-needed support.

Okanu further commended Governor Chibuike Amaechi for lifting the suspension order slammed on 11 council chairmen in the state, saying, it was a step in the right direction.
