The Bayelsa Progressive Forum (BPF), has advocated for the rentention of the Acting Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the State, Deacon James Dugo as the substantive chairman of the party in the forthcoming congress scheduled to hold next month.

The group said its stance on the issue stemmed  from the  fact that Dugo had proved his ability as a unifying factor, and brought all the warring factions together within a short period to win the governorship election.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the group, J. J. Baraburu and Secretary, Alfred Imbasi and made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, the group hailed the chairman not only for the victory in the election, but also for bringing sanity to bear on members, especially after the primaries.

“We are particularly impressed by the manner in which Deacon Dugo handled the affairs of the party from his inception in successfully steering the party through the crisis period over the candidature for the election,” statement said.

According to the group, Dugo also reconciled several interest groups and harmonised opposing positions within the party to ensure that it presented a united front before the crucial election.

Commending his efforts in the running of the party and the outcome of the election, the BPF noted that he took risks, made sacrifices and stuck his neck out in response to the yearnings of Bayelsans for change in governance.

It expressed hope that the party would grow bigger, stronger and more united for future challenges under Dugo and urged the leadership at both the national and state levels to ensure that he got a fresh mandate in the forthcoming state congress of the party.

The statement said that the chairman possesses the qualities that would make the PDP to stand head and shoulders taller than any other political party in the state, assuring that he would position it well for victory in subsequent elections in the state.

Added to that, the BPF said from the facts on ground, Dugo would be able to handle the task of introducing needed reforms into the state chapter of the party to place it on the path of progress.

The group, whose membership cuts across all the local government areas and the 105 wards within the PDP structure, said it was proper to honour the man who worked assiduously to ensure that Bayelsans voted the PDP for change, irrespective of political leanings.
