Group Tasks LGs On Good Governance

Political leaders at the local government level of governance have been called upon to always dispense good and responsible governance at the grassroots to build confidence in the process of leadership.

Executive Director, Academic Associate Peacework, an international NGO, Dr. Judith Asuni made the call during the 6th edition of Good Governance Forum held in Abua/Odual and Gokana Local Governments of Rivers State.

Speaking at the forum, the Executive Director said the Good Governance forum was a platform to promote interactions between the electorate, government officials and political office holders.

She said the project was an initiative of the British Government which was already gaining roots in the Niger Delta region, and called on the various LGAs to embrace the project to enhance citizenship participation in the process of governance.

In his remark, the Chairman of Abua/Odual Local Government, Hon. Udi Udim thanked the NGO for choosing Abua/Odual as one of the benefiting LGAs. The Chairman, who was represented by his Vice, Hon. John Edum, pledged the commitment of the LGA to good governance and called on all stakeholders in the LGA to contribute their quota to the development of the area.

Also speaking, the Joint Task Force, (JFT) Commander in Abua/Odual Lt. A. A. Adeleke called on the people to assist security operatives by volunteering security information to flush out bag eggs in the area.
