Group Donates 1000 Bednets To Combat Malaria
In a bid to make their mark in the fight against malaria, a non-governmental organisation, Junior Chamber International (JCI), Port Harcourt Metropolitan Chapter, has distributed 1000 insecticide treated bednets in Ogu, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Project Director, JCI, Henry Aka, in a chart shortly after the distribution of the bednets at a programme to mark the one-day visit of JCI International Vice Presidnet Samuel Moyo explained that their decision to join the fight against malaria was to help tackle some of the challenging issues in the health sector.
According to him, “health issues are the most challenging issues that we have and have the need to tackle malaria from all angles. JCI is seeking to eliminate malaria in our local communities.”
Aka hinted that in the course of the year, JCI expects to carry out interventions in cancer and infant and maternal mortality by organising programmes to that effect and appealed for support from government and other NGOs.
The group used the opportunity of the visit to the International Vice Presidnet to pay courtesy visits on the speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree and commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Sir Owene Wonodi, where the President of the Organisation, Anetha Faotu, stated that JCI was a worldwide organisation of active youths and young professionals in over 123 countries.
Faotu noted that the purpose of their visit was to intimate them that JCI shared in the ideals of the state and would want to showcase their own ideas to see how they can impact youths in the rural communities to bring about a change in their mindset.
“We want to shift the idea of youth restiveness to youth development. We want to make the society a better place and meet the state goals for young persons,” she said.
