The organised labour in Rivers State, has raised an alarm over the alleged breached of agreement by the Independent Petroleum Marketers and the government on the petroleum new price regime of N97 per litre.

According to the state Chairman, Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Emecheta Chukwu, the Independent Petroleum Marketers and the government had failed to abide by the agreement reached on the effective implementation of the new pump price of the petroleum products in the country.

Comrade Emecheta said that from investigation by the petroleum monitoring Taskforce, Independent Petroleum Marketers were selling the product above the agreed pump price of N97 per litre.

He said majority of the filling stations in the state except the NNPC mega stations were in breach of the unit price of N97 per litre, stressing that some filling stations were selling at a very astronomical price.

Comrade Emecheta appealed to the Independent Petroleum Marketers and the government to respect the Federal Government/Labour agreement reached during the Nationwide strike occasioned by the unilateral subsidy removal.

He said majority of Nigerians were suffering in the face of the prevailing circumstance and urged the government to intervene to normalise the situation and cushion the suffering of the masses.

Comrade Chukwu Emecheta is the chairman of the controversial Nigeria Labour Congress Petroleum Monitoring Taskforce recently set up but being challenged as an illegal body by the state Ministry of Energy and National Resources.
