The team leader of the Agricultural Extension Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government, Mrs. Julie Aham, has urged the Abia Government to revive its Farmers’ Field School.

She said that the revival of the scheme would promote the nation’s food security agenda and bring a lot of benefits to the state.

She said that the Federal Government introduced the school as part of the efforts to boost the National Programme on Food Security.

“We have introduced the Farmers’ Field School approach under the National Programme for Food Security.

“Some states started it up and were able to implement something.

“Abia should wake up and use this opportunity that is coming up now to revive its Farmers’ Field School”.

Aham noted that while Agricultural Development Programmes in some states had trained extension agents as facilitators, Abia had not done anything to that effect.

“One of the states we visited has up to 72 schools while the other has 75 schools”.

Receiving the team, Elekwachi expressed the readiness of the state to key into the programme, stressing that Abia stood to derive much benefit from the programme.

He said that the state government had taken some steps to revitalise its ADP, by sending extension agents to the rural areas.

The team was in Umuahia to sign an agreement with the state government on  the implementation of Agricultural Extension Transformation Agenda.
