Estate Agent Docked For Defrauding Tenant Of N229,000
A 48-year-old estate agent was on Monday arraigned before an Oshodi Senior Magistrates Court, Lagos, charged with allegedly obtaining N229,000 from an accommodation seeker, under pretext.
The accused, Sanni Saibu, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 22, 2011, in his residence at 22, Oke-Arin St. Palmgrove, Lagos.
“The accused collected the money from one Mr Akinde Adebowale with a view to providing him a one-room accommodation at 22, Oke-Arin St., Palmgrove in Ilupeju, Lagos.
“On the day the complainant wanted to move into the house, he met another tenant occupying the same room he already paid for, “the prosecutor said.
He further stated that the accused absconded since then, until he was arrested on March 1.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 312, 321 and of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
The magistrate, Mrs M. R. Osho-Adebiyi, granted the accused N300,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till March 13 for mention.
