The Enugu State Ministry for Human Capital Development and Poverty Reduction says the state government will revive its co-operative college to empower the people through access to funds.

The commissioner, Mr Godwin Ogenyi, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Enugu.

He disclosed that the state government was searching for a new location to build a fully fledged co-operative college.

Ogenyi explained that the ministry had sent out forms to revalidate existing co-operative societies.

The commissioner pointed out that the ministry was collaborating with other relevant ministries to fast-track access to funds by co-operative societies.

According to him, the government will issue a comprehensive list of viable co-operatives to work with the ministry of commerce and industry to enable them to access the funds.

Ogenyi said the ministry would publish a web-link that would enable the co-operators to know the opportunities they could take advantage of to access funds from micro-finance banks and federal institutions in and outside the state.

“We are also working with the department we call inter-ministerial liaison which is here and what we are doing with that is to develop programmes that impact on the various societies; we were impacting on the Okada people; we are impacting on the restaurant owners; we are impacting on the Keke NAPEP people.

“We are impacting with all the various artisan groups, numbering 22 of them, and the idea is to provide a documentation of all these groups; access their training needs; help them procure the modern equipment that will help them to respond to current technologies especially in mechanics and car repairs.”

Ogenyi said the people should be prepared to access the resources to stop poverty and create wealth in Enugu State so as to reduce the pressure on the government.
