Enugu To Review Taxation Laws

The Enugu State Government, says it will review its taxation laws to reduce impediments facing the business community.

The state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Jude Akubuiko, disclosed this in Enugu during a business roundtable discussion.

He said the government had concluded plans to tackle multiple taxation that had been the bane of business in the state.

Akubuibo said a committee had been set up to come up with a blueprint to restructure the issues concerning multiple taxation.

He said the government had intensified efforts to improve power generation, water supply and security while another committee would work with private power providers to produce 300 mega watts of electricity.

Also speaking on the occasion, the state’s Commissioner for Poverty Reduction and Human Development, Mr. Godwin Ogenyi, stressed the need for cooperative societies for businesses to thrive in the society.

He called on collaboration with the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of investors in the state.

He expressed happiness with the increase in the state’s internally generated revenue and called for its sustenance.

Meanwhile, the state government has threatened to blacklist contractors who execute any of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) contracts in the state poorly.

The Special Adviser to the governor on MDGs, Chief Okezie Nwanjoku, made the threat in an interview with newsmen in Enugu.
