Enugu To Connect 472 Communities To National Grid

The Enugu State Government says the 472 communities in the state are to be connected to the national electricity grid before the end of its tenure.

The state’s Commissioner for Rural Development, Dr Eric Oluedo, said in Enugu last Thursday that some 87 communities in the state had not been connected.

Oluedo said the budgeting for the connection had been done while the rural electrification board was already executing, adding that the governor had granted approval for 23 of the communities to be connected.

He said that Community Social Development Projects (CSDP), an initiative of the state in collaboration with the World Bank, was aimed at delivering micro-projects, with communities making their choice of projects.

The communities are expected to execute and run them.

“We organise the communities to form CPMC — that is Community Project Management Committees — and then deliver the money, monitor the use and then ensure that the projects are delivered. So these ones are still ongoing – 120 communities with 250 projects ongoing.”

The commissioner said the goal of the ministry was to ensure that the 2,884 projects, which the governor promised, were executed before the end of his tenure.
