DPR Identifies Apapa Ports As Diesel Adulteration Spot

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on Tuesday said Waziri Jetty, Apapa was one of the spots for the adulteration of diesel and other petroleum products.

The DPR Deputy Director, Depot and Jetty Operations, Mr Buraimoh Olarewaju, made this known during the inspection visit to some oil depots in Lagos metropolis.

The Tide source reports that Waziri Jetty is owned by the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA).

Olarenwaju said that the suspected perpetrators were found discharging the products at night from the badges directly into the awaiting trucks with the connivance of some security officers.

According to him, the depot has been shut down several times, but, the perpetrators re-opened it and continued with their evil acts.

Also, Head of Depots and Jetty Operation, Mr Patrick Emordi, said, ‘’ On  February 4, we sealed the Waziri Jetty and within few hours some security officers re-opened it.”

Emordi said that the agency would not be deterred in enforcing standards in the oil and gas industry.

The DPR inspection team also visited the laboratories of  NIPCO Plc, Mobil Oil Plc and Capital Oil and Gas and certified that the companies have standard petroleum products.

The DPR Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mrs Belema Osibodu,  at the end of the inspection, commended the companies for maintaining requisite standards in their operation.

She advised other companies to take a cue from them, adding that the development was the best way to complement the efforts of the agency in ensuring standard products.
