Director Urges Corporate Partnership In Library Dev

The Acting Director of Rivers State Library Board, Margeret Harry, has called on corporate organisations and multinational companies to complement the effort of government in the development of the state library.

Speaking in an interview with The Tide, the director said the library by its social services was critical in the development of human capacity and educational advancement.

She said facilities at the state library was inadequate to take care of the reading public in Port Harcourt and its metropolis, and called for a collaborative effort through multi-sectoral  involvement to give a facelift to the library.

The director pointed out that only the proper equipment and further extension of the state library could enable it cope with the growing number of academic institutions in the state.

Apart from the various academic libraries, she said the state library was the only pubic library where the reading public could use for research due to inconveniences at home.

The director also called on the Rivers State Government to develop the reserved portion of land at the jubilee which is under constant threat of invasion by the public.

She said the forlorn portion of the land had exposed it to enchroachment, and pointed out that only proper utilisation of the land for extensive library services could save it from such threat.
