Delta Workers Embark On Strike Over Insecurity
The security challenges facing Delta State has compelled members of the affiliate unions of the organised labour to embark on strike over insecurity and kidnapping of their union members.
The action of the members of the affiliate unions of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) comprising Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN), Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSA), National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) among others followed the incessant abduction of their members at various point within the state by criminals and kidnappers.
The strike as revealed by our source has compelled filling station managers to close down their station for business.
Medical doctors within the state government owned hospitals have withdrawn their services to protest the alleged kidnapped of their member Dr Ngozi Chukwuebulim by kidnappers.
The Tide gathered that members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state are equally planning a protest against the general insecurity in the state, especially following the abduction of a journalist.
Meanwhile, members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and their sister union, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSA) have also withdrawn their services especially at the Warri Refinery.
The situation has resulted in scarcity of petroleum products within the Warri metropolis of the state as long queues are seen within various filling stations.
