Coton Sport Arrives PH For Dolphins
Conton Sport Garoundfootball club of Cameroon, opponents of Dolphins are expected to arrive Port Harcourt today for the CAF Champions League second round match in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Dolphins will host Coton Sport at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, for the first leg of the second round of the competition.
Dolphins Media Officer, China Acheru, said that the team would arrive in Lagos late yesterday and get to Port Harcourt on Friday.
“For now, we expect a 25-man delegation because that is what the rules stipulate and they have not told us anything contrary.
“However, if they come with anything more than that number, we will have to work things out with them so the game goes smoothly, bearing in mind that we will be in Cameroon in two weeks time too,” he said.
Coton Sport, founded in 1986, has won the Cameroonian league 11 times but it has not been so lucky in the CAF competitions.
In 1998 the team was knocked out in the first round of the Champion League, while in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2006 it failed to make it past the second round.
But in 2008, it got to the final, losing to TP Mazembe of DR Congo.
It has not fared better in the CAF Confederation Cup, only able to make it to the group stage once in 2004.
In 2007 and 2009 the team reached the second round of the competition while in 2010 it was knocked out in the first round.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Felix Igwe, has said that Dolphins are prepared for the match against Coton Sport Garoua.
