The Chairman, Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Abia chapter, Mr Ifeanyi Onwuneme,  has  called on the people of the state to support Governor Theodore Orji to enable him deliver efficient and purposeful service.

Onwuneme told newsmen in Umuahia that the governor had had enough distractions and needed to concentrate in the administration of the state.

He said that the governor had shown commitment to the improvement of the lives of the people, particularly the civil servants.

Onwuneme cautioned against causing panic among the people, and called on the opposition to “sheath their sword in the interest of Abia.”

He noted that only constructive criticism would be beneficial at a time the state government was “struggling to lay lasting legacies for posterity.”

“We have noted with dismay the action of a section of the people against the government of the day and appeal to them to apply restraint in the way they show their grievances,” he said.

Onwuneme noted that the state chapter of the CLO would no longer tolerate a situation were the office of the governor of the state was degraded and the person of the governor assaulted in whatever guise.

“Henceforth, we shall prosecute anybody caught to have assaulted any political office holder in the state, be it throwing of sachet water on the person or otherwise.

“There are appropriate ways of channelling one’s grievances and those do not include abuse and assault.

“At a time like this, we need to forget our differences and come together in order to advance good governance,” he said.

Onwuneme appealed to the governor to accommodate all shades of opposition whom would assist in rebuilding Abia.
