Chime Orders Increase In NYSC Allowances

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, has ordered the immediate increase of allowances due  members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC)  serving in the state from N4,000 to N10,000.

Coordinator of the Scheme in the state, Elder Joshua Olowuokere, who disclosed this during the swearing-in ceremony of about 3,000, 2012 batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to Enugu State at their camp in Awgu also commended Governor Chime for approving the building of an additional Hostel accommodation in the camp

Elder Oluwuokere,  further promised to apply the Federal Government new posting policy for the present set of corps members,  adding that in line with the policy, corps members would henceforth be posted to serve only in four key areas, namely education, rural health agriculture and infrastructure.

In a brief address, the state Governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime, also assured the corps members of their safety in the State, adding that his administration would continue to provide the corps members with necessary facilities to enable them have a hitch free orientation course.

He expressed the hope that the recent upward review of their transport allowance would motivate them to put in more effort in the development goals of government.

Also in his address presented by the Enugu State Commissioner for

Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke , President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, equally  assured corps members of his administration’s readiness to provide the requisite enabling environment to allow youths optimise their evident capacity to drive the national transformation agenda.

The President noted that the key element of the subsidy reinvestment and empowerment programme in the country “is the provision of massive employment opportunities across the economy for the teeming youths” and reminded them that the success of every service year was dependent on the foundation laid during the orientation exercise.

President Jonathan commended the NYSC management for introducing entrepreneurial training into the orientation course content and urged the corps members to take the training and other aspects of the orientation programme seriously.

He further urged the corps members to brace up to the challenge of the present security situation in the country through collective vigilance and committed efforts of all.

In the words of the president, “I implore you to take very seriously the security tips contained in the pamphlet which have been packaged for you”

Also in an address, the chairman NYSC state Governing board, Mr. Chijioke Agu commended the corps members for the zeal and enthusiasm with which they answered the clarion call for national service.

This, he said,  was an indication of their belief in the Unity of Nigeria and willingness to render selfless service to the country and humanity.

Mr. Agu who is also the State Commissioner for youths and sports urged the corps members to continue in this spirit as the ministry would not condone indiscipline during or after the orientation course.

He applauded Governor Chime for putting enduring policies over time to ensure that corps members have comfortable and stress free orientation exercise and service year in the state.
