Bayelsa Governor Embraces Opponents

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson recently showed magnanimity in victory as he embraced candidates of other political parties who contested against him in the February 11 governorship election in the state.

. Governor Dickson, who granted audience to Committee of Governorship Candidates in the state who paid him a courtesy call in Government House, Yenagoa, said the real winner of the contest were Bayelsans as there is no victor or loser.

“I wish to declare here that in the last governorship election in the state, there is no victor and no vanquished”.

The Governor, therefore, called on the members of the gubernatorial candidates committee to join hands with him to work towards the progress of the state and to deliver effective service to the people.

“With the governorship election gone, the partnership between us should get stronger because a lot lies ahead to be done. We must therefore work collectively for the growth and progress of our dear state and deliver effective service to the people”, the Governor declared.

Governor Dickson, who observed that he has demonstrated a strong desire to reduce the cost of governance, said the present administration, under the restoration agenda, has set for itself an ambitious programme of aggressive infrastructural development and a fundamental turn-around in the education and health sectors, as well as other critical areas.

He charged the gubernatorial candidates, who all contested with him in the last February governorship election, to be prepared to act as agents of change.

He also lauded them for their contribution to the peace the state enjoyed before, during and after the last election, noting that it was an eloquent testimony of their maturity and love for the state.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Committee of Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Candidates, Chief Preye Olomu said they were paying the Governor a solidarity visit to congratulate him on his electoral victory and to pledge their willingness to work with him for the progress of the state.

Chief Olomu, however, urged the Governor to consider some of them for appointment positions, noting that they had put the election behind them and were ready to join forces with the Governor to move the state forward.
