Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi says internal party democracy is strategic to good governance.

Governor Amaechi made this assertion yesterday when the  former governor of Old Gongola State, and aspirant to the office of National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Governor Amaechi who was represented by his deputy, Engr Tele Ikuru, stated that for democracy to bring about meaningful development, internal party politics must be conducted in accordance with prescribed rules.

‘Whether we like it or not, the beauty of democracy is in the party politics”, Governor Amaechi asserted

“If the party is right, the people in government will be right, whereas if the party is wrong, the people you bring out and put in government will also be wrong”, he added.

The state chief executive said a party that is able to instil discipline at all level would eventually run the affairs of the larger society creditably to the benefit of all.

“If you manage and instil discipline at the party grassroots eventually this country would stand to benefit and all of us will be better off for it”, Amaechi noted.

The chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum thanked the PDP National Chairmanship aspirant for taking his campaign train to Port Harcourt, and assured him of support, pointing out that no other aspirant has campaigned in the state, and further tasked the aspirant to reciprocate the gesture to the state if he emerges victorious.

Earlier, the PDP national chairmanship aspirant, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur had said he was in the state to formally present himself as  chairmanship candidate during the party’s national convention which comes up in Abuja this weekend.

Alhaji Tukur, who is also the President, African Business Roundtable assured Governor Amaechi that he would promote internal party policies and deepen democracy if elected.

He said the task ahead of the political office is enormous, adding that he offered to serve to bring his experience and dexterity to bear on the discharge of legitimate duties of the office if elected.

“I always say, don’t give those who want the job, but give those that the job wants”, the business mungul added.
